《猛鬼街》的卖座，使得片商决定再拍续集，制作人决定让在片中被厉鬼弗莱迪杀死的南茜再度复活。电影公司并想尽办法要让希瑟·兰根坎普（即原系列电影中的南茜饰演者）参加演出。希瑟婉转地谢辞新片的演出，因为她不断地梦见厉鬼弗莱迪想尽办法追杀她以及她的家人，最令她害怕的是弗莱迪拥有一只抓死任何人的钢铁利爪。一日夜晚，希瑟的先生离奇丧命于车祸中，他身上四道长长的的抓痕告诉希瑟，弗莱迪是真实的，而不是梦幻,她和儿子迪伦是弗莱迪的下一个目标。无助的希瑟凭著爱子的决心和勇气，在弗莱迪的追杀中，救回生命饱受威胁的迪伦，终于走出了恶梦。
